As a Business Development Manager (BDM) for a construction company, the primary responsibility is to drive business growth and increase the company's market share by identifying and capitalizing on new opportunities. Below are the key responsibilities:

Business Strategy Development:

Develop and execute the business development strategy aligned with the company's goals and objectives.

Identify and analyse market trends, potential clients, competitors, and industry dynamics to identify new business opportunities in various sectors.

Client Relationship Management:

Establish and maintain strong relationships with existing clients, contractors, subcontractors, and stakeholders.

Develop a network of potential clients, including developers, government agencies, private enterprises, and other construction-related entities.

Act as the main point of contact for key clients, ensuring timely responses to inquiries, concerns and project requirements.

Lead Generation & Opportunity Identification:

Source and generate new business leads and opportunities for both public and private sector projects.

Engage in market research to identify potential leads and understand client needs in order to propose appropriate solutions.

Prepare and deliver presentations to potential clients, showcasing the company’s capabilities and past project successes.

Proposal Development & Tendering:

Oversee the preparation of proposals, bids, and tenders for new projects, ensuring alignment with client requirements.

Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., engineering, design, finance) to gather accurate information for proposals and pricing.

Lead the negotiation process with clients, ensuring favourable terms for both the company and the client.

Project Management Support:

Work closely with project managers to ensure smooth transition from the business development phase to project execution.

Monitor project performance and ensure that the company’s standards of quality, safety, and timelines are maintained.

Market Analysis & Competitor Research:

Conduct regular market research to monitor trends, pricing strategies, and competitor activities.

Identify potential areas for expansion or improvement in services offered.

Revenue Growth & Financial Targets:

Ensure that business development targets and financial goals are met, contributing to overall company revenue growth.

Develop and implement sales strategies that align with financial forecasts.

Reporting & Performance Tracking:

Maintain accurate records of business development activities, including meetings, proposals, and client interactions.

Provide regular reports to senior management on business pipeline status, and potential new opportunities.

Brand Representation & Networking:

Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to promote the brand and attract new business.

Foster positive relationships with industry professionals, partners, and organizations to improve the company's reputation in the market.

Collaboration and Teamwork:

Collaborate with internal teams, such as Technical, finance, and legal departments, to ensure all aspects of the business development process run smoothly.

Train and mentor junior business development staff, assisting them in their professional growth.

Contract Negotiations & Agreement Finalization:

Lead negotiations and finalize contracts with clients and partners, ensuring compliance with company policies, legal requirements, and financial viability.

Collaborate with legal teams to ensure proper documentation and agreement terms are met.

Sustainability & Compliance:

Ensure that business development practices align with environmental sustainability, safety, and regulatory requirements in the construction industry.
